HI, I'm Laura.

The way I survived the most challenging times in my life—divorce, severe illness and isolation—was walking. I realized walking was doing much more than helping me physically. It was changing my relationship with myself and helping me care for my whole self—body, mind and spirit. Walking was the most powerful self-care I had ever experienced.

That realization led me to wonder: If walking could do this for me, what could it do for other women?

That question became One Million Women Walking.

For the past ten years, I’ve followed that question. I’ve studied the science of walking, listened to women, taught what I was learning and paid close attention to what happened when women began walking as a way of caring for themselves. Over time, The Feel Better Plan™ emerged—a specific way of walking based in research and women’s lived experience.

But walking was only part of what I was learning.

Again and again, I saw how difficult it can be for women to consistently do the things they know are good for them. Not because women don’t know better or need more discipline, but because they are trying to care for themselves in lives where everyone and everything else comes first.

The Feel Better Plan™ provided the methodology. But something was still missing. Women needed support to make self-care possible in the lives they were actually living.

That understanding changed One Million Women Walking. Support became central to helping women practice The Feel Better Plan™ consistently. The work was much more than helping women walk. It was about helping women consistently care for themselves.

My vision became much bigger than walking.

I believe that when a woman begins caring for herself consistently, the change doesn’t stop with her. It reaches into her relationships, her family, her work and her community. She begins to model something different: that caring for herself belongs in her life, too. And that changes what she passes on.

Now imagine one million women.

That is the vision I hold for One Million Women Walking: one million women caring for themselves consistently, and the exponential change that becomes possible when they do.
